Dr. Ira Byock, Founder and Chief Medical Officer of the Providence Institute for Human Caring, discusses a new vision for advance care planning that simply asks individuals to name a trusted decision-maker to speak for them in the event they’re not able to speak for themselves. This choice is then entered into the electronic health record by a care provider.
